The democratizing effect of the internet gave birth to travel bloggers who eagerly logged their tourism experiences and shared their anecdotes and pictures with the world. This meant aspiring travellers could finally access a range of viewpoints and extremely specific advice, like road-tripping with two under two, sites for history buffs or the most luxurious hotels for honeymoons.
This has coincided with the tourism industry’s incredible growth which has made a spectacular recovery post-pandemic. The UN reported that by July 2024, international tourism bounced back to 96% of pre-pandemic levels driven by strong demand in Europe and the re-opening of markets in Asia and the Pacific.
In 2026, we’re expecting to see the interplay between travel bloggers and the tourism industry become even stronger thanks to the rise in demand for niche experiences. For example, ‘live tourism’ refers to the growing trend of travellers booking trips to coincide with the tour of their favourite music artist or festival. We’re also expecting more ‘set-jetting’ over the next few years, the trend in which tourism skyrockets when a location is featured in top on-screen productions.
